Scapa Club for children at Scapa Fest is our brand new concept, born from the feedback received by parents since 2018, where the focus is on maximising the fun and supporting the children to follow their own play and creativity, indecently from the parents/carers.
We encourage all children at the Scapa Club at Scapa Fest to add their mark to the flag and bunting, and to make their own.
The Scapa Club is divided in three ‘areas’:
This is a collaboratively built play area which will evolve over the course of the weekend.
We have large loose parts play pieces and ropes to make balancing trails, swings, dens, huts, see saws, zip wires – whatever the children and the environment offers to us.
This area is available for developing, and playing on all weekend.
Woodwork and Crafting
We have a range of hand tools for simple wood craft projects and sessions offer opportunities to make toy boats, wood puzzles, bows and arrow prototypes and wooden sword and knife projects to take home.
Wool is one of our favourite natural resources and this area will have a few different wool-based projects that children can take away with them, to continue to work on through the event, and to take home as keepsakes; nature weaving frames, wool friendship bracelets, dragon’s eyes, and felt square decorations.
This area will have hammocks and den making materials, plus tools for nature contemplation and meditative time.
There will be tree meditations here, and will also have some nature viewfinders, canopy mirrors, magnifying glasses, resources for drawing and books for nature identification.
An invitation, an opportunity and an experience
This programme of Scapa Fest 2021 is an open invitation to explore your relationship with yourself and the world around you from the inside out and the outside in. The Scapa Club for children at Scapa Fest is no different.
Overall, this is an opportunity to set your mind free, so it can create and engineer visionary solutions for a better balanced human society. This is a chance to give your hands & soul the precious gifts of traditional knowledge, crafts and skills.
We always receive more than we pay for when we get to actively participate instead of passively watching.
At Scapa Fest, the transaction is never complete and closed. We start a journey from which we can only return with more energy, peace of mind and freedom than we started with.
With each version of Scapa Fest, I call for experiences that are intimate, personal, and unique. I call for the creation of a multitude of powerful “you have to be there” moments.
Only through action we become the bridge between the challenging and the possible. Through daily actions, big and small, secret and public, inspired or sometimes fearful and even hesitant.
That’s why we choose to define Scapa Fest as a sustainable living IN ACTION event.
